THE CHINESE NEW YEAR
The Chinese New Year took place on January 22 designating the year of the rabbit. On this occasion the maternelle class MS/GS discovered some of the traditions from Asia like the dance of the lion and the dragon or the festival of the lanterns, and made some artistic works (lanterns, lotus flowers, dragons, pandas in a forest of bamboos). Within the teaching of space and time in maternelle, the children learned about the plurality of cultures but also of languages by writing their first name in Chinese characters. The final point of this tour de Asia will be in week 10 with the visit of the author Chen Jianghong, to whom the class has prepared a small surprise.
Throughout this period the children in GSB has been working on the theme of Asia and more particularly on China and Japan. The students made a large dragon in visual arts as well as fans and Kokeshi dolls.
