MARITIME ISSUES CLASS - 3rd STOP

      Posted December 4, 2025

At the end of November, our students in Terminale once again studied the issue of maritime challenges during a second conference in a series of four. After studying the role of seas and oceans in global trade, our students this time discovered the subject of microplastic pollution, thanks to a presentation by Mr. Lambert, a research engineer at the CNRS specializing in marine biology at the Cytomer research center (Brest, France). Mr. Lambert began by presenting the daily tasks of a researcher, from field surveys to international conferences, including laboratory experiments using state-of-the-art equipment, teamwork, and scientific publications. He then showed us the impact of this pollution on marine fauna through the study of Pacific oysters. Finally, he placed this crucial environmental issue in a global context by explaining how the international scientific community is seeking to influence global governance by placing microplastic pollution at the heart of the debate.
