WELCOMING JULIA TIBBLIN
On Monday, November 17, our school had the pleasure of welcoming Julia Tibblin, a researcher in French linguistics at Lund University, for a fascinating lecture on inclusive language and its effects on understanding and representations of gender.
She used concrete examples to show how the use of the generic masculine can influence our representations, and how certain forms of inclusive writing can clarify or specify the groups being referred to.
The audience, made up of students, parents, and teachers, also learned about research findings highlighting the cognitive and social effects of these linguistic choices.
The discussion that followed provided an opportunity to explore these issues in depth and to debate current issues related to language and the representation of each and every individual.
A big thank you to Julia Tibblin for her insightful presentation, and to everyone who attended! 🙌
