    POSTCARDS FROM HAMBURG

    Posted May 6, 2024

Postcards from the 7th grade German students on a language trip in Hamburg.
A beautiful sunny day for our first adventure. The trip down here went quickly and we arrived to Hamburg. We have explored the whole city and seen the most important places, from the town hall to the harbor, through the canals and the St. Nikolai memorial, and the students have solved the exercises we had prepared for them.
    ….
After breakfast overlooking the harbor (great view from our hostel!) we went to the Kunsthalle to see the famous painting “Wanderer above the Sea of Fog” by Caspar David Friedrich, from the beginning of European Romanticism. The students were moved by some of the other works they saw. They worked on creative writing, which we will continue to work on in class.
Another day of sunscreen. We had lunch in the sun by the water before taking a steam boat in the beautiful area of Alster and on the city lakes.
In the “Planten un Blomen” park, which we visited afterwards, the students did theatre activities and performed short improvised sketches in German and French.

We ended the day with a nice meal at a traditional restaurant where the students tasted German specialties in a great atmosphere in the Sternschanze district.

50,000 steps, long walks around the city that we saw from every angle, ships from all times, exciting discoveries and new words, water, water and more water, but also deeper friendships and happy memories: Here are some photos from our latest adventure in Hamburg. The students did a great job: they were engaged throughout the trip and helped make it professional and relaxed, creative and exciting. They should be proud of themselves.
